# How to transcribe a YouTube video

Use this when you have one public YouTube URL and you need a Transcript you can read, cite, and export as TXT, Markdown, JSON, SRT, VTT, or ZIP.

## Steps

1. Copy the public YouTube URL.
2. Open [the app](/app) and paste the URL.
3. If YouTube has captions, the simple transcript usually appears in seconds. Verbafy fetches those captions. It does not wait for the enhanced Transcript. That simple transcript is a caption preview, not the enhanced Transcript.
4. Wait for speaker labels, timestamps, and the enhanced Transcript.
5. Toggle between the simple transcript and the enhanced Transcript when both exist.
6. Play the video. Click a timestamp to verify a quote. The active segment stays in view as playback moves.
7. Export TXT, Markdown, JSON, SRT, VTT, or ZIP.
