# Descript vs Verbafy

Choose Descript when you need to edit audio or video through its transcript. Choose Verbafy when you need to read, search, question, or export what was said in a recording. Verbafy does not cut video or rearrange audio.

This comparison is written by Verbafy. Competitor details were checked against the linked official pages on 18 September 2026. It compares documented features, not results from a shared accuracy test.

## Decide what you need to deliver

| Your task | Descript | Verbafy |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Cut or rearrange a recording | Editing the transcript changes the media | Transcript exports; no media editing |
| Produce a finished video | Video editing, scenes, layouts, and captions | SRT and VTT subtitle files to use in another tool |
| Review spoken content | Transcript forms part of the editing workflow | Search transcript segments and ask questions with citations |
| Start from a public source | Check the import workflow for your source | Paste a public YouTube URL or Spotify episode link, or upload a private file |

For example, choose Descript if you want to shorten a recorded interview and publish the result. Choose Verbafy if you want a written record of that interview for notes or quotations. You can take Verbafy's subtitle export into a separate editor, but downloading subtitles does not add them to the video itself.

## Compare allowances and billing

Descript Free includes 60 media minutes per month. Hobbyist includes ten media hours and 400 AI credits per month, with watermark-free 1080p video exports. The listed price is $24 per person per month on monthly billing, or $16 per person per month with annual billing. Media hours and AI credits are separate allowances. See [Descript pricing](https://www.descript.com/pricing).

Verbafy Free includes 60 transcribed minutes each week. Starter monthly costs $12 for 1,000 minutes; Pro monthly costs $24 for 3,000 minutes. Monthly paid plans have a three-day trial with a card on file for eligible accounts. See [pricing](/pricing) for trial limits and billing terms. All amounts here are USD.

Choose based on the work you must finish. Extra transcript minutes will not replace the video editing tools you need for a finished clip.

## What can you take out of Verbafy?

Every plan includes TXT, Markdown, JSON, SRT, VTT, and ZIP downloads. The transcript has speaker labels and timestamps. Names are inferred when identifiable, so check them before quoting a speaker. See [how to export subtitles](/blog/how-to-export-youtube-transcript-subtitles) for the steps and limits.

## Which produces the more accurate transcript?

This page does not establish an accuracy winner. Compare the same recording in both products, including any difficult names and overlapping speech. Review [how to evaluate accuracy claims](/blog/how-to-evaluate-transcription-accuracy-claims) before treating a published percentage as a prediction for your file.
